I cannot be the only one that looked on in dismay as the Sony hype machine for 2020\/21 started cranking away at pace earlier this month\u2026 And whether you\u2019re on the fence about the new console\u2019s physical appearance being akin to a towering architectural marvel, or a funky-looking jumbo broadband router, you\u2019ll be forgiven for suspecting that half of the titles being pushed will probably still slip into a kind of developmental maelstrom with big, fat \u2018Delayed\u2019 badges emblazoned upon them\u2026
Let\u2019s have a closer look at some of those titles, though, because surely the gaming community is crying out for some originality and innovation, rather than fancy new threads for titles that are nearing their 20th and 30th birthdays\u2026?
Demon\u2019s Souls \u2014 a Dark Souls remake
Destruction All Stars \u2014 Demolition \/ Destruction Derby with nobs on
Ghostwire: Tokyo \u2014 1st \/ 3rd person adventure
Godfall \u2014 boss fighting
Goodbye Volcano High \u2014 narrative adventure
Gran Turismo 7 \u2014 Ah, yes, we\u2019ll see you in 2023, maybe?
GTA 5 and GTA Online \u2014 a sequel
Hitman 3 \u2014 because two outings were not violent enough?
Horizon Forbidden West \u2014 another sequel, really?
NBA 2K21 \u2014 no surprise at all, really\u2026
Oddworld Soulstorm \u2014 not at all odd, anymore, alas\u2026
Pragmata \u2014 are you braced for another extended movie with stunning graphics?
Project Athia \u2014 yeh, another one you can expect to arrive by 2023, maybe?
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart \u2014 those two, again?
Resident Evil Village \u2014 dark, broody, and more of the same?
Returnal \u2014 3rd person shooter
Sackboy: A Big Adventure \u2014 a fancy platform title, then?
Solar Ash \u2014 yawn\u2026
The Pathless \u2014 still yawning\u2026
Tribes of Midgard\u2014 yes, I really am yawning\u2026
Were there any positives to be taken from the press conference? Well, some would say that JETT: The Far Shore, Kena: Bridge of the Spirits, Little Devil Inside and Stray look like they are at least trying to do something different with the now oh-so-average, standard tropes of adventure and exploration\u2026 I guess.
My point is not that some of these titles aren\u2019t amazing games (some of them undoubtedly will be), or even that a lot of them will inevitably fail to live up to consumer expectation or possibly not even appear at all, but rather that there doesn\u2019t seem anything in that list that couldn\u2019t be done with the existing technology, on a PS4, Xbox, or even a PS3\u2026? Are we all really just hanging on every morsel Sony deigns to feed us about the PS5, just for the sake of playing the same old games with flashier visuals and a couple of extra bells and whistles in 4-8K?
Before you rise up and berate the grumpy old man in the corner, please consider this: when was the last time you saw a new AAA title do something jaw-droppingly awesome that didn\u2019t have anything to do with what it looked like on the screen?<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
